Seedlings
April 2023
(Icelandic) clay, volcanic ash, aluminium
A series of seven ceramic Seedlings, hybrid sculptures made from (my)body casts, planted them nearby the Icelandic flora exhibit in an attempt to become Iceland.
To enforce entanglement, I embedded an aluminium gall //
aluminium - a difficult material within the Icelandic historical and political context
gall - a tree's reaction to a parasitic organism, harvested in Slovakia //
in the ceramic sculpture.
The sculptures originated in longing for care and embrace //I can mother the copies of my body//, yet fell short by being cold, rigid, and unresponsive.
In the garden, I opted for projecting painful spots on my body
// head, belly, back, shoulder, right hip, right wrist, right knee,
I bow before you all //
as a map for installation.
Seedlings were exhibited during Epiphytes at the Reykjavík Botanical Garden.
